Dame Project

How might we increase uptake and/or improve the user experience of period pads.

Our final project which consists of an oval form with detachable cleaning surfaces. We found that participants usually dry their pads in bathrooms at home, therefore the cleaning surfaces can also be rotated and hooked onto a towel radiator allowing the whole unit to be effectively dried. Keeping in with DAME’s sustainable footprint, our concept doesn’t require pads to need a washing machine cycle saving many litres of water.

Washaballs - which consist of our sodium sesquicarbonate, anti-bacterial solution and a fragranced powder can be popped onto each separate chamber via sealed locking mechanisms which slide across. Having each chamber separated prevents cross contamination of soaked and cleaned pads.

Cat-tongue-wash- Derived from our experiments and inspired by a cats tongue, the cleaning surfaces on the inside which each pad snuggly fits across, give the right amount of abrasion from the user’s movement during the day to get stains out.
